Hi Jerry, Wishing you a happy belated birthday, and many more - all future ones on time. Best to you and yours, Michael
I was so sorry to read of Steve Yavers' death. Seeing Jerry's loving comments brought back memories of my own. We weren't close friends, but for a few years, my house was a block from his. He had a basketball hoop in his driveway, and we'd frequently play one-on-one, or HORSE. I'm pretty sure that playing with me frustrated him because I was not enough competition!
On October 15, 1955, Steve and I were bar mitzvah'd together at Temple Israel. As many of you may remember, a few days before the big event, Steve, who was a very good athlete, broke his leg playing tennis. Because he couldn't walk without crutches, Cantor Siegel had to reassign his responsibilities. He was able to stand for his haftorah, but he had to sit through the rest of the ceremony. Although he was a trouper, I felt terrible for him that he wasn't able fully to participate in his special day.
He was a good guy. My heartfelt condolences to his family.

I was saddened to hear of Jim's passing. I didn't know him well but he always seemed to be smiling. I think his mom was my typing teacher. She was a lovely woman and the apple didn't fall far from the tree. My condolences to Jim's family.
